This recording was made with members of The Fireblockers. It was recorded live at Bridestowe Village Hall, a beautiful space with wooden floor, walls and ceiling. I chose this venue as I was interested to see how the recording would turn out. Honk is one of my tunes, and I'm playing the drums as well as orchestrating the recording. The horns, vocals, and background noises were overdubbed at a later date, showing what can be done with a good basic recording and adding finishing touches.
This is our most recent recording. The Real'ish Band were winners of our last free recording competition, and this recording was made in a back room. It's an acoustic recording with guitar, double bass, vocals and cahon. The double bass was both mic'ed and d.i.'ed which helped to give the sound depth and definition. The vocals use the Golden Age mic as pictured in our logo!
This track, also made by the covers band The Fireblockers, was recorded live at Throwleigh Village Hall up on Dartmoor. This was recorded before I purchased the Sennheiser guitar mics. I'm playing the drums on this one and simultaneously monitoring the recording.
This was just a bit of fun I had with my Golden Age mic at home. I was looking for a warm, intimate sound on this folk blues song, which I also composed. Hopefully it gives an idea of the kind of solo recordings I can carry out.
Sarah Saunders was a fellow student at The Academy of Music & Sound in Exeter. This was recorded live upstairs at Old Timers' bar in Exeter. This piece was part of her final degree show, which OTF recorded. I was very pleased with the strength of the vocal and in particular the deep cello sound which was recorded using a Beyerdynamic bass mic.
The Bunny Boilers are a punk band from Dawlish, Devon. The recording was made live at their rehearsal room with no separation. Banter is one of their own tunes, which I think captures their 'grunt' quite nicely. The guitars were recorded using the Sennheiser guitar mics.
